I spent the last weekend in Salzburg, Austria, with my girlfriends Megan,
Suse, Justine, Laura and Sarah. We flew in on Friday night then went out to meet Jen, who just happened to be there
too! We sat outside a pub in the mild evening and discovered delicious Stiegl beer, brewed in Salzburg. We
then went out dancing to some fantastic old tunes and particularly enjoyed dancing to the theme tune to BayWatch!

The von Trapps house in the film. Remember the children falling out of the boat outside the house? |
Saturday morning we were up for the planned highlight - the Original Sound of Music tour! Salzburg
is where the film is set and filmed and, together with a bus load of devoted coffin dodgers, we spent a few hours driving
around to see the sights with our rather odd guide. We all had "High on a hill was a lonely goatherd..." stuck
in our heads for a while.

The wedding church in the film, in Mondsee. The real von Trapps were married in Salzburg. |
The bus took us quite a way out of Salzburg, to Mondsee, where some scenes
were filmed and from where we could see the "Do Re Mi" mountain, as it's called by SoM tourists! We got a long 40 minute
stop here and so had time to gobble down our first apple strudel - yummy.

Inside the Mondsee church. We got to see a procession of a real wedding party while here. |
Unfortunately we couldn't dance to "I am Sixteen Going On Seventeen" in the famous gazebo, thanks to some
83-year-old who broke her hip while dancing around the gazebo and decided to sue. It's annoying to know one
idiot can ruin the enjoyment for everyone. Still, it wasn't really a big loss!
