My little host sister from Switzerland, Mounia, arrived on Monday 9 August with a friend of hers, Paty, for a week in London.  I was quite excited about them coming - seeing Mounia again, speaking some French and perhaps repaying some of the amazing hospitality her family showed to me over six months back in 1995.

I picked the girls up from Victoria station on Monday evening and took them back to the flat (in the pouring rain - bienvenue en Angleterre!)  where we ate and sorted out what we would do the next day.

I took Tuesday off and we went out to be tourists in London.  It started off pissing down, so it was a good time to go to the London Dungeon.  This place is a rather gruesome "museum" of types, which explains the methods of torture and execution used centuries ago, the London plague and Great Fire and Jack the Ripper.  It was interesting and very well done, with all your senses, even smell, being attacked at one time or another!

We stopped for some good old English chips with salt and vinegar then headed off towards the Tower of London, down the south bank and across Tower Bridge.  By the time we got to the Tower the weather had fined up and we were in for a hot sunny day.  The Tower is a fascinating attraction and there is just so much to see and learn about this place that was first built in 1066.  We spent most of the afternoon there and I could have stayed longer and learnt more.  We saw the crown jewels, which was quite amazing - never will you see so much gold in one room!

Guards at the Tower - they must get sick of people taking photos of them all day long!

After the Tower, we headed into Picadilly and Leicester Square to have a quick look around, and then rushed home to prepare for the arrival of my friends who were coming around for a drink and to meet the girls and Mikey and to see the flat.  Next page
