Ahhhh.....that's what I call a view. The Alps. |
In recent years I have always used skiing to help me get through a long, cold winter, and I didnt want this year to be
any different, especially as I had a feeling this winter was going to be even longer than I am used to. So, last November,
I invited myself onto my Swiss host parents' annual ski trip. A week skiing in the Swiss Alps sounded pretty good to me!
There only hiccup in the plans was that when I went to book tickets on good ol' easyJet, three months in advance, I found
that one-way to Geneva, usually about £30, was £200 instead! Ah yes, this was school holiday week! So, with Ben's help, I
found a return flight for £90 to Strasbourg, in France, which meant a long journey starting at 7:30am, involving a train,
a plane, a border crossing, a shuttle, a tram, a train, another border crossing, another train until I was finally met at
Bienne by Jacques and Sylvie.

It was great to see my Swiss family again. Each time I see them, the
kids have grown up a bit more and are a bit more gorgeous! As usual, I was spoilt with great meals, including delicious gateau
au fromage on Sunday night, before getting up early on Monday morning to head to the Alps! Just two hours from home in Preles
is Champery, a small village nestled below the massive skifield Portes du Soleil. The skifield is the largest international
field in the world, covering slopes in both Switzerland and France, with 650km of runs and 206 lifts! Champery, at 1050m altitude,
is linked by a cable car which transports skiers up to the 2000m high skifield.
We stayed in a lovely little Swiss Chalet hotel, le Beau Sejour,
where I had my own little single room with en suite. From there each morning we started the day with a "continental breakfast" -
croissants, fresh bread and swiss cheese. Yummy!

There were chalets near the top of the slopes - at 2000m! Not a bad place to take a break! |
