The blue umbrella boat with the nudists! |
And
then! we devised the “Great Antipodean Lilo Race”. I never realised
how hard it was to organise a sports event! Even once teams were devised (Jen
was an honourary aussie) there was rather a lot of debate as to the course. It
was eventually decided that the official course would be once around the blue-umbrella nudist boat, followed by once around
the green nudist boat. And so the race began. I don’t think the sunbathers
scattered around the bay knew what hit them as the pink and yellow lilos were thrown overboard and competitors jumped into
the sea from the top deck. The nudists on the blue and green boats had no choice
but to be involved and by the time it was my turn around the green nudists, they were offering advice, albeit in German. After much shouting and cheering, and despite Travis and Jen’s blatant attempts
at cheating, the kiwis did, to no one’s surprise, thrash the aussies, by one whole lap!
We had earned our spaghetti bolognese today!

Laura, me and Jen enjoyed the sun |
The
day was glorious and my tan was helped along significantly this afternoon, before we took a short cruise up the island to
Krk town. More wandering and exploring of the old town, more gelato, more beers
and more pizza was once again the goal of the evening and it was a goal we had no trouble in obtaining. Christine was in the spotlight again when her “sexy pizza” turned out to be more “sex”
than “sexy” and I couldn’t help but think that it was still too early for sausages.

Yummy! Christine's "sexy pizza" |

The others in the pizzeria didn't know what had hit them! |

A little piece of paradise on a Friday |
Friday
came around far too quickly and our day in a perfect lonely bay was cruelly cut short by the crew who were a little too keen
to get back to their girlfriends back in Opatija, me thinks… Still, it
was another great day; the sun was just as strong in Opatija and the cocktails at Hemingways were great, even if our waiter
Mario didn’t seem to be as delighted as we were to be there… Opatija’s
a big place but it did take a long time to find our restaurant for the night. We
were pretty hungry by the time we found a grill where I made a real mess of my scampi and chips. Another nice night to end our fabulous week.
